Sign-in methods and security controls

To keep your account (and the accounts of everyone in your team) safe, Datawrapper offers multiple ways to sign in and to control the sign-in methods of your workspace members. Here's an overview.

Sign-in methods

Here are all the ways you can log into your Datawrapper account at app.datawrapper.de:

  • Email-address and password: The classic. Datawrapper will ask for at least eight characters and will tell you how strong your password is. If you choose this method, consider adding two-factor authentication.
  • Google: You can log in with any of your Google accounts.
  • GitHub: You can log in with any of your GitHub accounts.
  • Microsoft: You can log in with any of your Microsoft accounts.
  • Single-Sign-On (SSO): This lets you sign in using your organization's existing login system. Learn more about SSO and how to set it up here.
  • Sign in with passkey. Passkeys are saved on your browser, device, or password manager, and allow you to sign in without having to enter anything – not even your email. Compared to passwords (even the ones with two-factor authentication enabled), passkeys are both simpler and more secure. We recommend signing in to Datawrapper with a passkey on at least two devices, in case you lose one of them.

Security beyond your password

We offer three extra ways to keep your account safe:

  • Two-factor authentication: If you're just using your email-address and a password to sign in, we recommend that you set up a second form of identity verification in the form of two-factor authentication. Datawrapper supports authentication via authenticator apps and YubiKey. Learn more about both here, or set it up in your Sign-in & Security settings.
  • Email confirmation: If we have reasons to doubt that it's really you who's trying to sign in with your email-address and password, we send you an email with a confirmation link and code.
  • Account sessions: In your Sign-in & Security settings, you can see an overview of all devices currently signed in to your account. You can easily review where you are signed in and log out of any session that sounds suspicious:

Check how your workspace members sign in

If you're a workspace admin or manager, you can define the preferred sign in method for your whole workspace. This way, you can prompt all members to use two-factor authentication or single sign on.

You can find the option in your Workspace settings below Workspace > Sign in method. When activated, workspace members will be notified and asked to activate your chosen sign in method.

For an overview of the sign in methods of all your workspace members, head to the Members settings. Hover over any icon in the column Sign in method for further explanations.
