How to let readers increase the font size in visualizations
All Datawrapper visualizations have set font sizes for each displayed text, be it as part of the Datawrapper default themes, or defined by you when you created a custom theme. For some readers, the text size picked by us or you isn't ideal – they need larger font sizes to read the text in your chart, map, or table.
If you're defining relative font units (rem, em, %) in your Datawrapper custom theme, the text will become bigger or smaller when your readers choose so, so labels stay legible for everyone. This is also called dynamic font scaling.
This article explains how you can define the font sizes and where readers can change the font size to their liking.
How readers can change the font size
Readers can adjust the font size in their browser settings.
In Chrome, go to the settings (chrome://settings/) > Appearance > Customise fonts > Font size:

In Firefox, go to settings (about:preferences) > Accessibility > Fonts > Font size:

How you can define font sizes in custom themes
When you purchased a custom theme, our support team at support@datawrapper.de will be in touch with you. Let them know that you want to define all or selected text in relative font units.
You can set relative font sizes (rem, em, %) or fixed font sizes (px, pt, etc.) independently for all text you see in a Datawrapper visualization, for example:
Title and description
Footer: Notes, byline, source, Download data/image/PDF/SVG link
Color legends
Labels for axes, values, categories, groups, rows, countries or points on maps, etc.
Annotations and tooltips
Search within visualizations (e.g. in tables)
Font sizes that you set in absolute pixels in the Datawrapper editor (text annotations and the text of locator map markers) will be translated to a relative font size if you choose so. Please let our support team know that you want to use the relative font size for those text sizes.
If you change a custom theme to use relative font units, you need to republish your visualizations before the changes take effect.
