Freelance: WordPress developer

We’re looking for a WordPress Developer to join our team on a part-time freelance basis.

We use WordPress for our company website, blog and other publications. You are probably reading this on our company website right now 🙂

To help us improve and extend these publications, we are looking for someone with practical experience building modern websites in WordPress. You are a fit for the role if you are experienced with:

  • WordPress, PHP and its ecosystem
  • Theme and plugin configuration and development
  • General software development best practices

We welcome applicants with a pragmatic but thorough mindset who can prototype ideas quickly.

You can join remotely, in the time zones around Berlin, so GMT, CET, or EET. This role is a part-time freelance role. Depending on workload, we expect 5-10 days of work per month, on an ongoing basis. We are looking for a long-term collaboration with the right person.

What you’ll be working on

You will be working at the intersection of our communication and software development teams. Your work will include making visual and structural improvements to our sites, maintaining the technical codebase behind them, and being the point of contact for our communications team’s customization questions.

Datawrapper’s publications include our award-winning blog, containing newsletters such as the Weekly Chart and Data Vis Dispatch, posts about data vis best practices and product updates.

What is Datawrapper?

Datawrapper’s mission is to help the world create better visualizations. We provide an easy-to-use, free online tool to create charts, maps, and tables. It’s used by thousands of people every day, among them brands like The New York Times, Quartz, and FiveThirtyEight. We strive to make best-practice data visualization available to everybody.

A few of the visualization types you can create with Datawrapper. Among others: multiple donut charts, scatter plots, choropleth and symbol maps.

Visualizations created with Datawrapper reach over 200 million unique visitors every month and get viewed billions of times. Our chart editor is used by tens of thousands of users — writers, statisticians, data scientists, public servants, financial analysts, and many more. But our most prominent and visible customers are newsrooms. Datawrapper is used by data visualization teams at organizations like The New York Times, The Washington Post, Reuters, FiveThirtyEight, and many more.

We build and support Datawrapper with a team of just over 20 people, which gives everyone a critical and important role in shaping the future of our company.
